If the software is Windows Live Movie Maker (which you can download here) which allows for video editing with a few clicks is very easy to use, yet it does not use files on your network.

So when you want to create a collage using pictures or videos, it is necessary to use the "Add videos and photos.
It is then possible to choose the files of their choice by browsing his hard drive. If it is also possible to browse the shared drives on the network, it is still impossible to import a file. An attempt will display inexorably following error message: "It is impossible to directly add files into Movie Maker from a shared network folder. Copy files on your computer and try again."

The only apparent solution is to copy files locally that interest us, which is impractical you will agree.

We will therefore make a small change in the registry in order to alleviate this drawback.

Click on Start and type regedit.
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows Live \ Movie Maker
In the left pane, create a new 32-bit DWORD value named AllowNetworkFiles and give it the value 1.
For simplicity, you can directly download and merge the file below:

Note that if you later want to undo the change, you can simply delete the value AllowNetworkFiles (or pass it to 0).

Now you can add photos or videos from your shared disks in Windows Live Movie Maker!

It is now possible to access the shared network drive in Movie Maker

Of course, you get more comfortable to use if your network is fast enough:)
